Hugh is an Irish - Canadian artist born in Hamilton, Ontario. His interest in art led to studies at Toronto Metropolitan University, where he received a BFA as well as the Faculty of Communication and Design Gold Medal.

The majority of Hugh's work has been photo-based, and he is now also incorporating drawing, painting and writing in his art practice, sometimes alongside projects that include photography, in order to find new ways to express meanings and concerns on topics of identity, belonging, trauma and social justice.

Hugh's artwork has been published in magazines such as The Walrus and Prefix Photo, exhibited in commercial galleries and public venues, and is included in several art collections including The Image Center (Toronto Metropolitan University).
